The City Mood Index
Each answer can include one mood emoji. Each mood has a fixed score:

Index = Σ(count × score) ÷ Σ(count) over today’s answers that picked a mood, rounded to a whole number. With no moods yet it shows a neutral 50. Days run midnight to midnight in each city’s local time.
History
A daily snapshot of each city’s real answers (count, index, top words, moods) is kept for 400 days to power the week view. Snapshots contain real answers only.
Moderation
Answers are limited to short text, rate limited per device, and filtered for abusive or hateful words, links and personal details.
Limits
- Self-reported and anonymous: this is a vibe check, not a scientific poll.
- Small and uneven samples; one city is not comparable to a survey.
- Sample layer: while CityVibe grows, pages blend in illustrative sample answers so cities don’t look empty. These are shown on screen only, are never stored, and are excluded from server snapshots and the API.
